BELA BORSODI

Bela Borsodi is an Austrian photographer, he moved to New York where he became interested In photography, he explored still life photography but soon became interested in portrait, reportage and fashion photography. He has produced work for Vogue, Ten Men, H&M, Elle and Wired magazine. Borsodi's work is often surrealist such as the one I have explored (photograph 1), this creates an illusion which is distorted from reality. I chose to explore this photograph as I found the technique he used challenging and it inspired me to try it myself.

The photograph is of a women inside a black box, I think this photograph connotes how women are trapped in a box due to their expected appearance. The model is crying but also emotionless, this expresses how draining it can be to keep up with expectations posed on us by the media. I think Borsodi used the colour black to connote the same emotionless feeling she has by what the media expects from her. This piece is surrealist as it shows the models head being 'detached' from the rest of her body, this was used to connote how she is trapped. I was inspired by this and used the same technique of putting the models head 'in a box'.
